Ways to play Most Wanted 2005: PC, console or handheld
Updated 2026-10-29
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) can mean the original PC game, separate console or handheld builds, or unofficial community browser projects. This page distinguishes those routes without claiming that any community runtime was tested to completion.
Six paths
Online means other players. “Needs the disc files” means a copy of the original game data, not a browser cache.
| Path | Online | Needs original files | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| MWO browser | Yes | No | web.nfsmwo.com |
| NFSMW Online | Yes | No | nfsmwonline.com |
| dezm0n port | No | No | itch.io |
| GBA web-emulator listing | Multiplayer unverified | Distribution rights unverified here | See the GBA page; not the PC build |
| PS2 emulation | Game-specific support unverified | Your own disc image; PCSX2 also needs your own BIOS | Desktop PCSX2 or experimental Play!.js; browser compatibility unverified |
| Retail PC disc | Official servers closed in 2011 | Yes | Second-hand disc. No digital store page found |
What the 2005 game is
Wikipedia records a November 2005 release by EA Black Box, published by Electronic Arts, set in Rockport with a blacklist and police heat. The GBA and DS versions are separate games from the same year, not the PC career squeezed onto a handheld.
Community races replaced the official servers after 2011. Most Wanted Online is the project Wikipedia points at for that continuation. The date of the shutdown is 1 August 2011 on Wikipedia and 11 August 2011 on EA’s list.
Questions and answers
Is the original PC install size the browser download?
No. Retail disk space, the small MWO mod archive and browser-transferred data are different quantities. No verified browser total is available here. PCGamingWiki returned 403, so its old numeric requirement is not republished as newly checked.
Can I buy 2005 on Steam?
The reviewed Steam listing is 2012, not 2005. No official 2005 digital purchase link was identified. RacingGames reports no historical PC digital release; that broader claim is one accessible secondary source here.
